In a world where people see music as a career or an avenue to become overnight stars ladened with fame and opulence, Shola Allyson differentiates herself from the pack as she believes that being a musician is much more than all this, she sees it as a calling and that mindset has made her a unique talent/brand in the Nigerian music scene.
Her music is inspiring and it’s not by accident. It’s influenced by her life experiences. Growing up, Sola had a tough childhood and she has spoken about this severally. In an interview with Punch newspaper, she described her childhood experiences “I grew up in different places and Ikorodu is just one of those places. Most of my experiences are fading off now. I only remember clearly the absence of my parents and the struggles a little child should not have experienced that I had. Of course, I grew up and became mature quickly. I saw life on a deeper perspective than someone in my age bracket. Those experiences made me learn life much earlier because I became responsible very early. Maybe that is why my songs come across as deep and wise. I did not grow up in the setting of a home. As young as I was at that age, the decision of my life was in my own hands.”
Her music is relatable as much as it is inspiring and this is why she has been able to build a huge following over the years. Her love for music also connected her to her husband as they met in their church choir. “We were both members of the Central Choir of the Celestial Church of Christ. We discovered that both of us always had the same attitude to things. We discovered that we shared the same interest and opinion, even when we were apart. We started as friends and on a platonic level, until we began to have deeper interest in each other. And today, by the special grace of God, he is my number one fan. He has given me all the support at his disposal to see me succeed in my career.”
Her rise to fame hasn’t separated her from her core principles and with the release of her 8th studio album IRI, she continues her winning streak. Describing the album, she defines it as an inspirational body of work that will reaffirm people’s faith in God. “Iri expresses my confidence in the mercy and grace of God the almighty, which i see as HIS nature and character, regardless of what happens to one in life.”
