This week we share stories of African American female entertainers who got a rough start at life and somehow made it far. You won’t believe some of the hardships endured by these diamonds. Nydia goes totally fangirl on Maya Angelou. She shares stories about the historically famous author’s life, giving focus to a time when Maya Angelou was kidnapped and almost killed by a man she trusted. Dana tells the incredible story of Billie Holiday. Government officials made her an example, framed her, and eventually killed her. This story will make you want to punch a tree. Cindy tells us about a new food blogger she discovered called Immaculate Bites with some easy-to-make African recipes that you can try today.
For dinner this week, Cindy cooked up Chicken Paprikash. This creamy chicken and Basmati rice was worth going back for seconds. For dessert, she made us a carrot cake that made Dana change her mind about carrots as a dessert forever. Both recipes were found on Immaculate Bites. The meal was paired with 19 Crimes Hard Chard. An interesting Chardonnay that tends to be on the sweeter side.
